7 Reasons Why You Should Have Film Photos of Your Wedding

In an age dominated by digital technology, there's something profoundly beautiful and unique about returning to analogue methods. Film photography, with its rich history and unique aesthetic, offers an unmatched charm that digital cameras simply CANNOT replicate. (Wondering what adding film to your package with me looks like? For couples who consider themselves somewhat creative, sentimental, or a fan of that nostalgic feeling when you hear an old song, here are seven compelling reasons to consider wedding photos on film.

1. Unmatched Aesthetic Appeal

Film photography produces a distinct look that digital cameras struggle to replicate. The grain texture and the softness of the tones that film captures are incredibly flattering and add a dreamlike quality to photographs. This is perfect for weddings, where the ambiance is all about romance and timelessness.

2. Embracing the Art of Imperfection

There's an inherent unpredictability with film photography that many find enchanting. The occasional light leak or an unexpected blur can turn an ordinary photo into a piece of art. For couples who appreciate the beauty in imperfection, film offers little surprises that can make their wedding photos unique and personal.

3. Nostalgic Quality

For those with a love for all things vintage, film photography is the perfect nod to the past. The classic grainy look of film photos can evoke a sense of nostalgia, making them feel like timeless treasures. This emotional connection can make your wedding photos feel even more special and meaningful.

4. Color and Contrast

Film has a distinctive way of rendering colors and contrasts, often leading to richer and more vibrant photos. The dynamic range of film is also different from digital sensors, offering smoother transitions between highlights and shadows. These qualities can dramatically enhance the atmosphere of your wedding photos, making every moment captured look like a scene from a classic movie.

5. Thoughtful Composition

Since film rolls have a limited number of exposures, photographers often take extra care when composing each shot. This leads to a more thoughtful, deliberate approach to photography, ensuring that each photo is crafted with intention and attention to detail. Images on film are a thought-out piece of your love story, not just a quick snapshot.

6. Tangible Memories

While film photos are physically developed and then scanned digitally, they shouldn’t stay in their digital format! Whether you include them into your wedding album or have them printed separately, having physical photos of your wedding day brings a tangible aspect to your memories.

7. Unique Photographic Experience

Opting for film photography can set your wedding apart and provide a unique experience both for you and your guests. It adds an element of rarity and luxury, making your special day even more exceptional. Plus, film photographers are typically very passionate about their craft, bringing an additional layer of dedication and expertise to capturing your wedding day.

Conclusion

In a world that's increasingly digital, opting for film can make your wedding feel timeless in an authentic and personal way. Whether it’s the unparalleled aesthetic, the tangible prints, or the unique experience, film photography offers a deeply meaningful way to remember one of the most significant days of your life.

What does adding film to your package look like?

For each roll of film you add, you will get around 30 photos of nostalgic goodness. These will capture the in-between moments during the brightest part of your wedding day, adding to the overall story of your day. Key moments like your first kiss as husband and wife, or the dance floor at reception will be shot on my trusty digital cameras.

The cost of film is currently on the rise, but to give you and idea, a roll of 35mm film costs $36 per roll. After your wedding day, I would drop off the rolls at a film processing lab, where they charge $20 to develop and scan the film negatives. Once I receive the scans, I’ll make some final tweaks, before adding them to your online gallery.

You can add film to your elopement or wedding photo package with me for only $120 per roll.
